Special techniques and equipment
Special techniques and equipment are often required when assessing children and most hearing test providers are untrained and unequipped to provide this for your child. The basic hearing test for children is known as pure tone audiometry. Our professional audiologist uses an electrical machine which produces sounds at different volumes and pitches. These sounds are emitted into your child’s ear. We ask your child to raise their hand or push a button when the tone is heard. Using earphones we can assess which frequencies are being detected by your child. If our audiologist discovers your child has hearing loss other tests are conducted ,for example using a bone conduction oscillator to determine whether the hearing loss affects the outer, middle or inner ear. This testing is performed in a friendly and reassuring manner and is not threatening for children. It may even be fun!
